Everything the CEO accomplished was a success because of the person who really runs the show: you. Did you make every decision or every sale? Of course not, but that’s not the issue. If you believe you should know not just your job but your business, you’d be telling me you were an integral part of a team that grew a business by 23 percent in three years, increased employment rolls by 150 additional FTEs, cut materials costs by $2.5 million, and so on. You’d be able to engage in a conversation about what’ going on in your business and, logically, why you’ve decided to go for a promotion in your company – or leave it altogether.
